Brigadier General Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah (Retd)

Brigadier General (Retired) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah, SUP, NDC, HDMC, PSC joined The Dhaka Mercantile Co-operative Bank Ltd. as Advisor (Business Development) on 01 January 2024. He was born on 01 July 1968 in Nachole, Chapainawabganj. Brigadier General Fazal passed his SSC and HSC from Nachole Pilot High School and Nachole College in 1983 and 1985 respectively. He joined the Bangladesh Military Academy with 18 BMA Long Course and passed out on 24 June 1988 as the top graduate of his batch and was awarded the President’s Sword of Honour.

Brigadier General Fazal in his service career of nearly 35 years in the Bangladesh Army, held range of command, staff, instruction, intelligence and diplomatic appointments. Known for his professional and academic feat and administrative forte, Brig Gen Fazal headed different outfits with distinction. He came out as the top graduate of his class in Defence Services Command and Staff College and the National Defence College. He was awarded the ‘Sena Utkorshota Padak’ (SUP) for securing first position in more than three Combined Army Level Courses. He has the distinction of securing ‘first class first’ position in the Masters in Defence Studies degree under the National University. He also secured First Class (with Distinction) in the Masters in Management Studies from Osmania University, India and received the award of the ‘Best International Participant’. He also completed the Masters in Military Arts and Science from The United States Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, USA. Brigadier General Fazal is a graduate of National Defence College, Bangladesh; Defence Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur; The US Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; and, College of Defence Management, Secunderabad, Hyderabad, India. Besides, he underwent host of training courses at home and abroad including Mid Career Course from the School of Infantry and Tactics, Quetta, Pakistan and the International Intelligence Directors’ Course from the Defence Intelligence School, Chiksands, UK. Brigadier General Fazal’s specialization include and go beyond disaster relief and disaster management, management of and conduct of UN Peace Operation, international negotiations and exchange, general management and administration at higher levels, security assessment and planning, strategic planning and discourse, leadership, etc. He is a distinguished instructor and an avid reader. Beyond military assignments, he was a director of Bangladesh Army’s Flagship Housing Project – ‘The Jolshiri Abason’, former Club Captain of Kurmitola Golf Club, Secretary General of Bangladesh Golf Federation, Chairman of the Discipline Committee of Army Golf Club, Chairman of the Grounds Committee to Kurmitola Golf Club and Vice President of Rangpur Golf Club. He has the distinction of designing the present golf course of Rangpur Golf Club. He is an avid golfer.

Brigadier General Fazal served under the blue helmet in Somalia (1994-95) and DRC (2003-2004). He is now pursuing his PhD program under the Bangladesh University of Professionals.

Brigadier General Fazal is happily married to Ms Shahida Chowdhury. The couple has a son – a second generation Army Officer and a daughter – an undergraduate student in USA.
